Today’s post is a fun yet highly practical one. When Americans go on vacation abroad, we tend to stick out like a sore thumb. Most people wish nothing but a great time for us, but just like right here in the US of A, there are a few people who will wish to do us harm in some way. You should think of your hotel room as something to secure just like your personal belongings.

Conde Nast Traveler’s associate digital editor Katherine LaGrave does a good writup of a post former Marine and CIA operative Drew Dyer wrote over at sofrep.com about staying safe in hotels. We particularly liked the advice on keeping the “Do not disturb” sign on the door even when you are away as a free and easy measure anyone can take to prevent break-ins.
